Location: Utah, Canyonlands National Park, Needles District
If you have ever hiked in the Needles district in Canyonlands, you know how the vegetated “parks” contrast vividly with the towering red cliffs. Walking along narrow paths that cut through cryptobiotic soil, a look ahead makes you wonder how you could possible pass through the rock towers. Then suddenly rock cairns guide you up a winding and cryptic route into the heart of them. A sense of discovery and wonder follows as the trail finds its way through to the next “park.”
